"There is no reason to be alive if you can't do deadlift." ~Jón Páll Sigmarsson

Today I felt alive because I can deadlift!  I started some light lifting but it was an amazing feeling to be back in a training routine that included iron.

I started following a version of the 5/3/1 program which includes deadlifts, good mornings and leg raises to increase my strength again.  It is an altered version because I have no idea of my maxes post op.  I also threw in extra accessory work for fun. Things are picking up from here on out!

Setbacks

Some people want to write me off & count me out.  Some people laugh at my setback and think it gives them the advantage.  They haven’t realized that I am more determined with my obstacles than they could be without them.  I can succeed with an injury because it is my destiny to be a fighter.

I have never been given anything on a silver platter. I worked hard and earn every one of my achievements. I've competed, trained, and busted my ass while in pain. Today is just another day in another battle.   After all, what is an achievement if you didn't work for it and you didn't have any competition?  Winning a title or a game means little without an opponent.

My goal is to move forward and use every obstacle as a way to improve upon other facets of my performance.  My vision hasn’t become blurred.  In fact, it is more clear than ever!

Setbacks can be brutal but with the right mindset it can be a blessing in disguise. Fight, work hard & achieve what you deserve my friends!!  This is YOUR life.  Make it one that you are proud of!

New Year/ New Shoulder

I am now almost 7 weeks post op from having a SLAP (superior labral tear from anterior to posterior) repair and an open Mumford procedure to remove bone spurs.  You can learn more about the surgery from this video:

Recovery is going very well and I have begun Phase 5 of physical therapy (strengthening and conditioning phase.)  I will be posting some updates of the exercises I use in this phase to help others in their recovery.
